One day back in September or October 2013 as I was walking into the pool area at the gym I could see one of the lifeguards watching me. As I was preparing to jump in the pool he continued to watch me. I could see that he was thinking about something. So after I jumped into the pool as I swam close to him he said "Good Morning". Then he asked if he could ask me about my disability. He thought he was being rude. I told him he was not being rude. That I saw it as him being curious. I explained that I was born paralyzed from the waist down. But that by the GRACE of God I AM able to walk. I told him what muscles in my legs I have use of. I think he was amazed at how I REFUSE to let my disability get in the way of doing what I want, when I want. Anyway, after that he told me who he really is. He wasn't really a lifeguard. He was the aquatic director. He said that at that facility they have this club called the TriClub or the Triathlon Training Club. At the time he wanted me to join TriClub. So he gave me his card and we started talking about this adventure he wanted me to be a part of.
Now after 7 or 8 months I am FINALLY an official TriClub member. That is me riding my handcycle hooked up to the computrainer. What an awesome experience this has been and will continue to be for years to come.
I have a feeling once I build up stamina and muscle I will do really well. I can't wait to get my racing chair and learn how to really swim. I will post more pictures and periodic updates as I get more into this adventure.
